We’ve just added the ability for alumni to select their school activities, clubs and sports as part of their profile.

We are happy to announce that Alumni Channel now works with Twitter!

Try these new features on for size:

• Members can now make their Twitter account visible on their profile (just edit profile)
• You can make your organization’s Twitter account visible on your home page

We actually now support all the most popular social networking applications in the same way (Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn too).  To see how your organization’s account would be showcased, see http://demo.schoolalumnisites.com for an example of these icons (see the area just to the right of the message board heading).

Please note that we have implemented the following enhancements to all existing and future alumni sites:

1) Added user profile fields for phone contact info (home, work, cell).
This new functionality can be found on the new user registration page as well as on the edit profile page for existing users.

2) Added security feature that includes a “challenge” question and answer.
This new functionality can be found on the new user registration page as well as on the edit profile page for existing users.

3) Added mechanism that allows registered users to report website abuse to the site administrator(s).
This new functionality can be found on each page of the alumni community site: Report Abuse

Growing is a great thing, but it’s not without some bumps along the way.

January 13 and 14 saw the two busiest days for the Alumni Channel — over 100 verified registrations each day!

Over the last five days we have been experiencing some problems with getting the verification e-mails out to new sign-ups, and reminder e-mails out to those pending.

I recently attended two conferences on young alumni relations where we learned a great amount of information on how to connect to different generations of alumni. We also listened to several organizations who told us about their needs in online communities. Through these and other discussions the Alumni Channel is going be looking into some of these ideas in 2008:

• Event management (rsvp, participant lists, payment)
• Photo galleries
• Enhanced e-mail tracking (sent and opened statistics)
• Additional contact information data points
• Segmented reporting and e-mail blasts
• Online networking and mentoring
• More detailed reports
• Segmentation by affinity groups / student organizations
• Featured members

In early January we’ll be launching a brand new, streamlined design. The new design is easier on the eyes, more professional looking, and better accommodates those organizations with darker colors. Take a sneak peek!

This HTML text editor brings to the web much of the power of desktop editors like MS Word.

Two new features have been added to Alumni Channel member sites . . . add a second photo to your profile, and a ‘zoom’ feature has been added. If a larger photo has been uploaded, click the photo to see a larger version!

Today two new security features were added to Alumni Channel school sites. Site administrators now have the option to:

1. Approve all new registrations
2. Receive an alert to all new registrations

These options make it possible to keep a sharper eye on who is registering at your site.
