Secaucus Public Education Foundation Launches Community for Alumni
Secaucus Public Education Foundation of Secaucus, New Jersey, Relies on Alumni Channel’s Online Alumni Community Solution to Connect with Alumni Across the World
3/4/2011
CHERRY HILL, N.J. – Alumni Channel, a web provider of online alumni communities for schools and other non-profit organizations, announced today that the Secaucus Public Education Foundation of Secaucus, New Jersey, is relying on the company’s online community solution to develop closer relationships with its alumni.
Foundation board members Hardik Shah and Dora Marra, made a commitment to begin implementation of the Alumni Channel for their online alumni community. Secaucus High School alumni represent an alliance of thousands of Secaucus HS graduates across the United States and worldwide. With a growing base of graduates, the foundation wanted to cultivate stronger bonds with and among alumni that would lay the foundation for fundraising in support of critical programs such as scholarships and an endowment. The Foundation needed a technology solution that would enrich its existing Web site while reducing costs associated with direct mailings. This would enable the Foundation to provide an interactive, customized experience for each visitor, including opportunities to connect with each other, view school and class events, and eventually make online donations.
New Service: Data Import into Online Communities
In an effort to help clients get better use of their community we are announcing a new data import service that will drastically reduce the amount of time and effort to get new records (e.g. graduates) into our online communities each year.
The “Data Import” Service:
- Send us a file
- We upload it
- Passwords are automatically generated
- Newly imported members get a welcome e-mail with login information
We anticipate this service will be most useful for organizations that have recurring new members on an annual basis and might have had trouble in the past getting these members to sign up on their own. This service will now avoid any uncertainty regarding if, and how many, new members will register on their own.
- File must be in specific format
- A template will be provided
- Each file can contain any number of records
- Cost for service is $200 per file imported
Contact us for more information, then start collecting name, address, phone, and e-mail addresses. Once you have your data ready send us the file and we’ll work with you to get it imported. That’s it!

N.J. school districts begin seeking alumni donations to plug holes left by state aid cuts | NJ.com
In all the recent talk about school funding, or lack thereof, one group is never mentioned.
Alumni. That scattered army of graduates, that, as years mount, look back on their high school days with increasing affection. Or something like it.

Public School Districts and Alumni Funding – alumni futures
Many American public school districts are searching high and low for additional funding. It seems inevitable that they will ask alumni for donations, as private institutions do. This practice isn’t new, but it doesn’t garner much attention in the public eye – at least, not compared to the high-profile capital campaigns of private institutions of higher education.

Home From College Program: Counselors Reach Out to Alumni
The College Counseling Office of St. Theodore Guerin High School (Noblesville, Indiana) recently invited the recent graduates from the Class of 2010 to participate in an annual panel presentation describing college life and addressing issues of particular interest (you know, the real low-down) to their current senior class.
Guerin’s online alumni community by Alumni Channel was used to message the 85 graduates from 2010 and within a very short period of time the alumni responded and the counseling office had 10 responses. Topics to be covered at the “Home From College Program” may include:
- Why you chose this particular school
- How the transition from the high school environment to the college environment has been
- First year experience/Freshmen year adjustments
- Social and cultural issues
- Any advice for this year’s graduates?
The counseling office invited graduates to this annual program to share their college journey with seniors. Due to time restrictions, the school will most likely select 8-10 alumni to sit on the panel, representative of a variety of colleges including large research institutions, small liberal arts colleges, state universities and schools with geographic diversity.
St. Theodore Guerin High School is a private Roman Catholic high school in Noblesville, Indiana. It is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lafayette in Indiana. It is named after Saint Mother Théodore Guérin. It was built in 2004 and had its first graduating class in 2007.
Online communities get stronger when managers learn to delegate | Community Building
A great way to get members passionate about your community is to empower them. You’re the community manager but that doesn’t mean you should be doing everything. The more responsibilities you give your members, the more dedicated and committed they’ll become.
